Grace Episcopal Church invites you on a contemplative journey through the miraculous birth of Christ. Advent Quiet Days on December 20, 21 and 22 will be a holy time to experience the season of Advent, making hearts ready to receive Emmanuel – “God With Us”.
This is a unique opportunity to silently pray through meditation questions, art projects, music and other activities designed to help ponder the birth of Jesus.
“Advent Stations” will be set up in Grace Church. This self-guided walk inside the church is modeled after the Advent wreath – four candles for the four weeks of Advent, along with a Christ candle which is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Each station will contain written reflections and objects to highlight the roles of different people(s) important to the Christmas story. The church will also be open for silent prayer.
In Virginia Harris Hall next door to Grace, a variety of self-directed meditation centers will explore the words of prophets, the adoration of the shepherds and magi, sacred and secular music, simple gift-making or just sit and silently enjoy the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate or cider. Enjoy for a short time, stay for hours, or visit multiple days.
The Quiet Days will be open Friday, Dec. 20 from 10am to 4pm; Saturday, Dec. 21 from 10am to 4pm; and Sunday, Dec. 22 from 1:30pm to 4pm. A short Noonday Service will be offered Friday the 20th. All activities are free and all are welcome.
A group of folks worked in several areas of the church recently, making Grace Squeaky-Clean with the Holy Spirit. Windows were washed, the pantry was de-cluttered and sorted, the choir room was organized, the sacristy got a good going-over and and the items in the undercroft that are broken or otherwise unusable were hauled out in preparation for upgrades coming soon.
